About Us

No Hands Lifted, the only organization of its kind in Vallejo and Solano County was created as a result of the personal experience and passion of founder Leisa Wynn-Johnson.  Our mission is to strengthen our community by providing advocacy and charitable services that help rebuild women and teens who have been physically, emotionally and psychologically abused.  Our goal is to educate and provide resources about mental health and substance abuse while promoting self-esteem and building healthy families. 

 

No Hands Lifted fills a niche in the community, serving as a conduit by organizing efforts that increase awareness and create opportunities for the public to get involved while providing valuable assistance to those in need.   

 

The Annual Day of Giving is one of the notable events organized by No Hands Lifted.  Formerly the Day of Beauty, the goal of this effort is to provide a day of fun in a safe place and much needed support to women and their children who are displaced due to domestic violence as well as others who are in need.  Volunteers cater a first class breakfast, and from the moment they enter, families are welcomed with gifts and favors.  As the day goes on, women are given the opportunity to browse and "shop" a collection of nearly new career apparel, children's clothing, coats, shoes, and other accessories, all free of charge.  Because the event is held just prior to the holidays, guests also participate in a toy drive, where organizers have sorted hundreds of donated new toys based on the ages and genders of each child.  As the day comes to an end, more valuable gifts and gift baskets are raffled and each guest leaves with a sack lunch.  

 

To ensure a successful event, a minimum of approximately 300 volunteer hours are invested during the months leading up to the event.  Our organization collaborates with domestic violence shelters, churches and other civic organizations. 

 

Other efforts include women's retreats and conferences, as well as workshops and seminars at local churches and community organizations.  

 

Why No Hands Lifted? 

Hands should never be lifted in violence or defense, only to extend a helping hand, the ultimate hand of compassion, or as a loving touch.
